Our Story: What’s in a name?
‘Būkra’ is a phonetic play on the colloquial Arabic word بكرة meaning tomorrow or future.
A common phrase among Arabic speakers is ‘būkra ahla inshallah’ or “A better tomorrow, God willing.” It’s spoken, often over another person, as a hope and a prayer. This is the heart and inspiration of the Būkra Project. We will always consider our customers first and only make quality products. We will always consider our artisans and crafters and ensure their work is dignified. We will always strive together for a brighter future.
As our products cross between continents and move from the hands of our artisans to the hands of our customers our hope is that each individual connected to Būkra Project will be connecting to a “better tomorrow.”

Būkra Project jewelry is handmade by Syrian refugees in the Middle East who are rebuilding their lives after fleeing the war in Syria. Each step of the production process — casting, finishing, plating, and packaging — provides dignified employment to our friends as they work to build a bright future for themselves and their families. The bright beauty and careful design of each piece is a symbol of a hopeful future. Thank you for standing with our refugee friends. Hope and pray with us for a lasting Freedom.
Our Process: Handmade with Hope
The production process for Būkra’s products combines the efforts of skilled designers and artisans with the hands-on work of newly trained crafters. Our partner jewelers have decades of experience in their field and ensure that our products meet high-end quality standards. They are reestablishing themselves after the being forced to flee the violence back home. Others working with Būkra are new to working in jewelry but are eagerly learning new skills as they rebuild with hope for a new future.
From an original design our products are created using the ancient method of lost-wax casting. This technique for handmaking jewelry involves creating wax impressions of the original design before casting them in metal. Our jewelry products are cast in brass before moving to the hands-on steps of finishing and polishing. The final step is plating each piece in a precious metal. We offer products plated in Silver, Rhodium and a variety Gold options, including Rose and 14K.
